So far this season of Supernatural has been all about the Darkness, but last week the show went old school and went back to basics with a run of the mill case. This is what made fans fall in love with the show, but we don’t always get these great episodes.
Sam and Dean are hunters. They find supernatural occurrences. They investigate and take out the monster. At least that was what their job use to be. Now it’s all about saving the world and saving each other, but once upon a time it was all about the family business: saving people, hunting things.
The majority of season one was built on regular cases and that’s when we fell in love with our Winchesters. Watching last week’s episode made me long for the days when Sam and Dean just took regular cases. It was in and out and a distraction from the insanity they were dealing with. There are so many great episodes and cases throughout the eleven seasons. If you are reminiscing over the bread and butter that Supernatural was built on, here are the episodes you should go back and re-watch.
A Very Supernatural Christmas, Season 3 episode 8
Well you should probably watch this episode also because it’s the holiday season and who doesn’t want to share eggnog with the Winchesters? This is a great case. They thought they were hunting an evil Santa. This was also back when we still had Bobby and he could remind them that they were idiots. And remember Dean’s necklace? It was in season three that Sam gave the necklace to Dean. The necklace he also wore up until it was supposed to find God and then didn’t. Sam and Dean have dealt with a lot of Gods in their time, but these pagan Gods were so much fun.

Yellow Fever, season 4 episode 6
It seems that the boys can’t help getting themselves into trouble in the middle of cases. One of them has to get taken or in this case infected. I don’t think it gets much better than watching Dean get terrified from the littlest of things. He’s usually the one running into danger, but here, he’s running away, even from a cute, little dog.

Wishful thinking, season 4 episode 8
I use to love when Supernatural would air a very lighthearted episode after a series of intense episodes. Sam and Dean have great reactions to the things they encounter, but in this episode they faced a drunk, talking teddy bear. It was one of the weirdest cases they’ve ever took on and one of the most hilarious. How can you not watch this episode over and over again?

Tall Tales, season 2 episode 15
This is another bizarre episode and we got introduced to the Trickster, aka Gabriel. This may have something to do with the over all story, since we do see Gabriel a lot later in the context of the story arc, but back then, he was just a Trickster. Once again the boys were dealing with some strange occurrences and they couldn’t solve this case without Bobby. How are they getting through their normal cases now without their surrogate father?

About A Boy, season 12 episode 12
You should basically re-watch this episode to just see Dean jam out to Taylor Swift.
