NYCC Press Room: K.J. Apa Says We’ll Find out Archie’s Fate Quickly

If you’ve been dying to know Archie’s fate, you won’t have to wait long to find out. We will find out very early on in the season. I got the chance to sit down with K.J. Apa in the New York Comi-Con press room to find out what fans can look forward to in season three of Riverdale.

Beware of spoilers in the video below. If you don’t want to be spoiled on the season premiere, start the video at 1:10 to skip the first part.

Varchie shippers will have a hard time this season. According to K.J., their relationship is going to be put to the test. They won’t be able to see each other much with Archie going through his legal battles, and Veronica handling the speakeasy.

We can expect to see Archie truly grow up as he copes this season, and his relationship with his dad will change because of that too. It’s unclear if Archie will get his revenge on Hiriam, but K.J. expects we will see something play out between the two of them. Revenge will have to wait, at the moment he’s in survival mode.

K.J. says he gets more physical in this season than the other two seasons combined.

“It’s great for me. I love the physical stuff,” says K.J.

The most challenging thing he’s had to do was breaking the ice at the end of season one. He was punching a mat and it was so cold he didn’t feel it. Twenty minutes later his hand was swollen, and it was the first broken bone he’s ever got.

Each character on Riverdale this season seems to be going through their own turmoil. When asked who the most important relationship with Archie is for season three, it took him a second to answer.

“That’s a really good question because I don’t have that many scenes with a lot of the cast, to be honest, the core cast. But I would say, actually, Jughead,” says K.J.

That’s probably not the answer Varchie shippers wanted to hear, but at its core, Riverdale is definitely a show about friendship.

To tide you over until the season three premiere on Wednesday, October 10, check out the full interview from the press room:
