‘Arrow’ Review: Finally, Oliver Vs. Diaz to the End

We always knew that taking down Diaz would be epic. Especially since it has taken this long to take him down.

It’s no secret that Diaz (Kirk Acevedo) has not been a fan favorite villain, but he certainly has done damage to Star City, Team Green Arrow, and especially Oliver (Stephen Amell). He’s had the most reach, even if fans didn’t like him. A lot of fans were also not happy when he wasn’t thwarted at the end of last season but finally, Oliver has won.

I didn’t like Diaz much either. I did like Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) fighting him and I did like how Oliver finally ended him. Diaz wasn’t even man enough to take on Oliver one-on-one. He had to have a bunch of inmates and set the prison on fire before he would face off with Oliver. It wasn’t a fair fight. Oliver had to take down guards and inmates before he got to Diaz, and he still won the fight. We always knew he would but it was still an intense episode.

This was probably the best episode Diaz gave us. At first, when I realized we weren’t getting anyone else, I was a little disappointed, but the story arc more than made up for it. It was a pretty epic battle to the end. I’m very thankful Oliver was still allowed to leave after all of that.

There are definitely two things this storyline of Oliver being in prison gave us. One, the strength Oliver has but also, it did change him. How could it not? It also changed Felicity. From the fact that she almost killed Diaz to what we’ve seen of her in the future. That’s going to take a toll on Olicity. That will definitely be the next thing we have to worry about.

I’ve really disliked Daiz but I’ve really liked this season so far. It’s gone back to Arrow‘s roots while bringing in a new type of darkness. I also like when they push Emily’s character. Felicity is my favorite and she has so much depth to her. It’s nice when the writers play to that.

All of that being said, I’m so happy that Diaz is done. I want to keep the same darkness, but with a new villain.

Could that villain be Stan (Brendan Fletcher)? He escaped and he’s a little unhinged and has a weird obsession with the Green Arrow. We probably haven’t seen the last of him.

And more good news, from the promo for next week it looks like our Green Arrow is back! We still don’t know who this faux Green Arrow is, but I’m so thankful Oliver will be suited up again next week.
