Grey’s Anatomy‘s “I’m Still Standing” left us with the statement, maybe we have to rethink what normal is. I definitely think it’s time we did this.
Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) is finally doing better. She was trying to get back to “normal.” The watchword, as Veronica Mars would say. Now that people are getting vaccinated, it definitely is time to start thinking about the new normal. This episode has perfect timing.
While it’s weird to see Meredith at home so much, it’s nice to see her awake and happy. The old stars’ appearances were nice, but it’s nice to have Mere back IRL.
I can’t believe that Meredith will never operate again. It may take time, but she’ll get back there. In the meantime, I love that Dr. Miranda Baliey (Chandra Wilson) is making her in charge of the residents! This is the perfect job for her. She’s already a mentor to many, and right before Bailey offered her the position, Meredith was saying she didn’t want to go back to normal. She wanted to change things. This gives her the chance to mold better surgeons. I’m very excited about this new path!
Grey’s Anatomy is always pulling at our heartstrings. That storyline this time was Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) and Luna. So many shows this season have been making characters parents in untraditional ways. Talk about defying the norm.
Dr. Atticus Lincoln (Chris Carmack) is right. Jo is already a mom. The way she freaked out when Luna’s heart stopped and just announced she was her mom. But then why isn’t she adopting her yet? She went home crying. It was heartbreaking to watch. Please, please just let Jo be happy. She’s been through so much. If adopting Luna will make her happy, let’s hop to it.
On the other hand, Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) doesn’t want any more kids. The promo showed this cute AmLink scene with Link saying he wanted more kids. It was an exciting moment for this ship!
But Amelia doesn’t think she can handle more kids because her life is “messy.” We don’t have to give up hope on this yet. Link and Amelia talked about her addiction recently, and he told her to keep talking to him. This is definitely part of that, and it will give us another great AmLink heart to heart when she does talk to him.
It’s also nice that Amelia and Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) have found a way to be friends. She helped him with Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), and he’s helping her with Link. It’s nice that they’ve found this place, and we get scenes with them together.
We also got a dose of cute in “I’m Still Standing.” The cute doctor giving Dr. Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) the injections for the vaccine trial was flirting with him. It was nice to see him being fawned over. While this could have been very cute, I’m happy Dr. Nico Kim (Alex Landi) and Schmitt made up.
Nico seriously came through. He lit candles every night, hoping Levi would come over. Who knew there was a romantic in him?
The penultimate episode of the season was very quiet. After an intense year of Covid, it’s getting us back in touch with the doctor’s lives. Like Dr. Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) and Dr. Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill) planning their wedding. They had extravagant plans that included a possible waterfall and flying to New Zealand.
After all the ideas, Maggie wanted to wait to do it until more things opened up. She eventually realized it was her mom not being there that was giving her pause. She wanted the perfect wedding but realized it would never be that without her mom.
She put her dad and Winston’s grandma on a plane for a Grey’s wedding for the season finale!
And in Grey’s fashion, there will be drama. The promo shows both their dad and grandma object to the wedding. Why?!
