The promo for Walker, season three, episode 13, “The Deserters,” made viewers think Cordell Walker’s old mentor, Cooper, was the leader of Grey Flag, but that was a misdirection. Instead, the reveal was much more surprising.
Spoilers
I really liked Kevin Golden (Jake Abel). It was a shame when Cassie Perez (Ashley Reyes) and he broke up. He seemed like such a solid guy. He was so much fun in Walker season three, episode seven, “Just Desserts.” Now he’s mentoring August Walker (Kale Culley) and helping the Walkers. There are so many good souls on this show, so how were we supposed to think he was anything other than what he seemed?
When Cooper (David B. Meadows) finally convinced me he wasn’t the head of Grey Flag, I thought back to Kevin telling Abeline Walker (Molly Hagan) that he had work to attend to at the mayor’s office. I knew it was him but didn’t want it to be. So why couldn’t we just have him be another nice guy on the show and an honorary member of the Walkers? But, of course, that would be less fun and less shocking.
Trey Barnett (Jeff Pierre) was even more shocked than me. It makes more sense why he got in so easily and made it to the elite squad. Kevin wanted it that way. But how much influence did he have in getting Trey fired? Could he know that Trey is undercover? Not knowing will add more suspense, moving into the season’s most likely last few episodes. The first season had 18 episodes, and the second 20. This feels like we’re leading to the exciting conclusion of this storyline. Then we just have to cross our fingers that we get a fourth season.
Walker has gotten better and better. It has so much more life in it, especially now with the Trey twist of him working undercover, and he has been even more integrated into the cases. But, at the same time, how can they top this storyline? It’s the most intense yet.
While I hate that Kevin isn’t the man we thought her was. It’s a great twist. It’s no wonder Grey Flag is so connected. He’s right in the middle of everything. It will be interesting to see why he believes he’s doing the right thing and why killing people is the way to do it. Like, why did he kill all of Walker’s team? He is particularly attracted to Cordell (Jared Padalecki) and his family. It’s why he’s keeping them so close. That could even be why he dated Cassie, too. He kidnapped him to recruit him, but, of course, Cordell wouldn’t join. It will be interesting to see how he got all this information on Walker (or that could have been with the help of Cooper. We still need to know how he got involved and what they did to him.)
This will be exciting to learn, but unfortunately, we have to wait until March 23 to learn it. There is plenty of TV to keep us busy in the mean times. Thursdays already have Station 19, Grey’s Anatomy, Alaska Daily, Young Sheldon and Bel-Air.
