Jacqueline is back to doing what she does best, inspiring young women to be brave. The beginning half of the season was missing her inspirational speeches. Shows need to grow as the seasons progress, but they can’t lose the things that made them great in the first place. I’m glad The Bold Type is getting back to basics.
Jacqueline (Melora Hardin) wasn’t giving one of our girls an inspirational speech this week, she was talking to scared young women. I love when The Bold Type takes on stories like this. In season one, it was so powerful when Jacqueline admitted she had been raped. Now it’s touching on something different, but just as important. I only hope stories like these can help other women come forward.
This really was the perfect episode for Adena (Nikohl Boosheri) to come back. I can’t imagine having a better photographer to capture this story. I do feel torn about her coming back, though. Kat (Aisha Dee) is happy. She’s finally moved on. Adena is such a strong character that I’m glad they found a way to bring her back and maybe the writers are leading us to reunite one of our favorite ships. I just feel that we need more from the Tia (Alexis Floyd) relationship than just Adena returns and then they’re done. I like Tia, I like the campaign that they are running, and I want the writers to give this couple their due, even if they aren’t meant to be together.
When Adena and Kat broke up, I appreciated watching Kat go through the stages of grief. I love when this show gets real and shows us that life isn’t perfect, especially for someone as strong and bold as Kat. It makes us remember that it’s okay if we are not okay. That story had a point and resonated with me. However the Tia and Kat story ends, I want it to have meaning.
One storyline I’m really enjoying right now is the growing relationship between Sutton (Meghann Fahy) and Richard (Sam Page). This is my favorite relationship on the show and I like that they aren’t having the easiest time building their life together. They are working through it, and that’s what I really like. I’m trying to figure out my own relationship, so looking at a couple I love struggle but in a postive way, it’s nice to know you don’t have to have it all figured out. It’s also nice to show them communicating about it, even if they don’t start out communicating about it.
I respect Sutton so much for wanting to do everything her self but if you think about it, there’s a lot of times she has Kat and Jane (Katie Stevens) right by her side. But there is a big difference between your girls helping you out and your man.
Something I didn’t know I needed was Jane and Alex (Matt Ward) as roommates. We have seen their great chemistry on screen before and this is just proving that we need more of it. Alex is no Sutton, but he’s proving to be a good roommate, and I want so much more of this.
