The Resident named the “Hero Moments” episode well because there were so many beautiful moments from heroes.
The Resident hasn’t touched too much on Dr. Conrad Hawkin’s (Matt Czuchry) military career, so it was nice to see more into his past. It was brutal. He almost died trying to save one of his fellow soldiers, who were sadly already gone, and his captain almost died trying to save him.
He’s been carrying around the guilt and shame of that night for ten years. He didn’t even tell Nic Nevin (Emily VanCamp) what had happened.
Hopefully, he can finally let go of that guilt that has been weighing him down.
I particularly liked the moment when Nate gave Conrad the bullet that had been stuck in him. He wanted Conrad to throw away the bullet with his guilt. It was hard not to cry at that moment.
All the moments with Dr. Randoph Bell (Bruce Greenwood) trying to reconnect with his stepson Dr. Jake Wong (Conrad Ricamora), are sad as well, but equally as beautiful. I love that Bell is trying to rebuild the relationship. He has changed so much since we met him in season one. I hated him then, but he’s had such growth throughout the seasons.
I hope eventually Jake lets him in again. It will take time, but I believe Randoph is here for the long haul this time.
I’m still waiting on Dr. Kit Voss (Jane Leeves) and Randolph to get together. She’s helping him with his stepson, and they continue to spend time together. Why aren’t they are a couple? Maybe the second part of this season?
I also want more of Kit as CEO. We’ve got a woman in power, and I want to see her using that power. I loved when Dr. Barret Cain (Morris Chestnut) asked to speak to the new CEO, and she turned around and told him he just did, and he did not look happy.
I was hoping Cain would have learned from his evil ways that got him stuck in the mess he’s in, but apparently not. He wants to find out who the whistleblower is, and, of course, we know it’s Dr. Mina Okafor (Shaunette RenĂ©e Wilson). She’s trying to get her visa renewed. This is the last thing she needs right now.
Is Cain going to be sticking around? The writers seem to be trying to make us hate him as much as possible. He’s been hated, but there was still enjoyment in his arrogance. Now it’s just hatred.
Before Mina’s world blows up, she had a very successful surgery. She flew solo on a complicated procedure, and it didn’t go perfectly, but she was able to isolate the problem and fix it.
Her surgery was almost as good as Dr. AJ Austin (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) telling her that he’s done being her mentor. They are ready to move onto the next phase in their relationship (if Cain’s doesn’t mess it up). It’s been a joy to watch these two on-screen, and I’m excited for what’s next.
Dr. Devon Pravesh (Manish Dayal) had a rough day, but it ended well. He’s really trying hard to give every patient the care his father deserved. A woman with sickle cell amenia came in with a lot of pain and ended up needing a hip replacement. She was concerned because her condition causes extra risk factors. He convinced her to get the surgery believing it was the best thing for her, and one of the possible side effects happened. She became very anemic and needed a certain type of blood to survive because her body was rejecting the blood given to her during surgery. Her heart was pumping too hard to keep the blood moving.
He was so disappointed for letting the patient down. I hate when Devon beats himself up when he’s done nothing wrong. He carries that guilt for too long.
They ended up saving her, and then one of the beautiful moments of this episode had him bringing her ballet students to her for the recital. She got the hip she needed, and she didn’t get to miss the dance!
