We’re two episodes into American Horror Story‘s Delicate, and it’s making Matt Czuchry’s Dexter Harding Jr. and Kim Kardashian’s Siobhan Corbyn look like the evil ones, and I’m hoping that’s the case.
Warning: Spoilers
It’s no secret how much I love Matt. It all started when he played Logan Huntzberger in Gilmore Girls and continued when he played Conrad Hawkings on The Resident. I was quite excited when I read that Matt would be starring in this season of American Horror Story. This series is filled with talented actors, and it was great for Matt to be a part of it. So far, his role has been subdued. He’s the supportive husband but doesn’t do much. If that’s all it is, that wastes this man’s talent. It’s more likely he’s playing a sinister role, and as the season plays out, we’ll see him do more.
But other than his character not playing a big part yet, he did look pretty suspicious when he stumbled over his words when his wife, Anna Victoria Alcott (Emma Roberts), asked him where he was when she was calling. He claims he had his phone off while he took a nap. But he’s constantly taking calls and even answered the phone when they found out they were pregnant. Why did he all of a sudden turn off his phone, especially when his wife was out and has a potential stalker and just passed out at the Gotham Awards? It doesn’t add up, so he could be part of everything going on around Anna. It’s still unclear what is actually happening and what’s all in her head. But I suspect Dex has a sinister part to play in all of this.
Anna’s best friend Siobhan (Kim) also seems suspect. While Kim has no credits to her name, it’s unlikely that Ryan Murphy brought Kim in to play a side character. Having her as a publicist and fighting for her best friend’s career does seem like a fitting role to play, and she’s doing an amazing job. That monologue of her telling Anna to get it together if this is what she wants was incredible. But I can’t imagine that’s all Kim will be doing this season. Why get a big name like Kim (even with her not being an actress) for just a publicist role?
Like Dex, Siobhan had a moment in this episode that made her look suspicious — those B-12 viles. It’s strange that she would just hand over all those viles. That or it could just be throwing suspicion at her.
The first two episodes have Anna feel like everyone is against her. She’s seeing things she can’t explain and is feeling like she can’t trust anyone. That could include her two closest people, her best friend and her husband. They are the two closest people to her to be involved in the things going on around her. And while they semi-stand up for her, they don’t come up with many explanations of their own.
It feels like it’s going to be a slow-burning season as to what is happening, but it’s certainly creepy already. And American Horror Story‘s Delicate is bringing real-life horror to the screen again. As I said last week, the show will have to be careful in covering such a sensitive subject of infertility. It can hit close to home to some people who have gone through it or are going through it. Maybe the conclusion of the season may even help people. I’ve never read the book, so I don’t know how it’s going to end. But given this is an adaptation, we can’t say for sure if it will play out exactly like the book does.
